About the event
You are warmly welcomed to one of two evenings of beautiful music and thought-provoking sounds. Â Gemima is currently working towards the lofty goals of VCE music performance as well as AMusA on cello. Â Not a small feat for a 17year old but she loves playing all her musical instruments and is excited to show you what she has been working on this year. Â Â You will hear haunting strains from Prokofiev's sonata in C, amazing melodies in the Saint Saens cello concerto in Am, as well as some other glorious music by European and Australian composers. Â
As well as enjoying accompanying her daughter, Fiona has been slowly creating a collection of piano solo works about trees and the thoughts or feelings they can create in us. Â Nature is beautiful and we humans are capable of appreciating the details of things like trees which is what sparked the idea of the Arboretum Suite: musical explorations of the artwork of trees as well as the mental states that we can find ourselves in when admiring them. Â These recitals are the premier of eight of these works, with many more in the pipeline and hopefully another performance of the whole album in the future. Â
Funds raised from these concerts, after expenses, will go towards a special charity called Casa Vida (details at timorlestechildrensfund.org.au). Â This was founded in 2008 to provide shelters for women and their children in East Timor and helps to give care, food, education and work for young people in need. Â Our family has had a connection with the homes outside Dili over the years as well as their parnters in Bali where other homes for children are run and we would like to keep supporting and promoting their amazing work with the help of your generous donations through these concerts. Â The goal is to continue to spread the idea of growth both personally, musically, and in a wider global community.
